The Salisbury University track & field programs hosted the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference Championships at the Salisbury Track & Field complex May 5 through May 6. The men s team finished third while the women s team finished just two points behind conference champion Christopher Newport University. The Sea Gulls saw a record breaking performance from Kyleigh Dumas as she broke the school and conference record in the pole vault. Dumas picked up one of Salisbury's two victories on the opening day of the championships clearing the bar at a height of twelve feet four inches. Her vault breaks the previous mark she set in late April at the Captains Classic of 12' and now ranks her 16th in the nation. With the win Dumas repeated as conference champion earning first team accolades for the second straight season. Duncan Ferrin continued his impressive senior year campaign, earning a first-place finish in the hammer throw. Ferrin posted a throw of 187' 4" to earn the victory beating the field by 27 feet. With the victory Ferrin was named to the all-conference first team, for the first time in his career. Jacqueline Seymour earned the Sea Gulls' first victory of the day on Saturday morning earning the win in the high jump. Seymour cleared the bar at a height of five feet two and a half inches defeating Christopher Newport University jumper Hannah Bowden by one and one quarter of an inch. Seymour helped Salisbury repeat as champions in the event defending her now coach, Meghan McGowan's, title from last year. For her efforts Seymour earned first team all-conference recognition for the first time her career. Donovan Beckett-Simms earned Salisbury's second victory on day two of the championships posting a first-place finish in the triple jump. Beckett-Simms posted a jump of 48' 10.75" to earn the win as well as set a new school and CAC record. Beckett-Simms breaks the record he himself previously set earlier this season when he posted a mark of 47' 5.75". For his efforts Beckett-Simms earned his first all-conference honors being named All-CAC First Team. The men's 4x400-meter relay team capped the weekend with a second-place finish. The team of Alex Hardman, Mickey Van Gieson, Tyler Hardman, and Ethan Binnix came home in a time of 3:18.44 to earn the finish and all-conference honors as they all were named to the second team. Salisbury returns to action on Wednesday, May 16 when it compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships at Johns Hopkins University. The is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
